He kept his eyes trained on hers and the meaning there conveyed an image of intense yearning that Audrianna could not mistake. “You decide.” He bowed his head. Bringing her open palm against his mouth he flicked the tip of his tongue there. His eyes remained on hers. He gave Elyzabel a look of warning before exiting the room, leaving Audrianna with a besotted expression on her face.

Audrianna balled both hands up to her chest and grinned. “I love my man.” She clapped her hands a few times gleefully and then reached for the smart phone on the side table, which Elyzabel had handed her before the big commotion about her hair.

Elyzabel, a voluptuous woman of Hispanic decent, looked immediately contrite. “Sorry for getting all worked up about your head and things. It was just a shock to see all of it gone, so…” Elyzabel shrugged her shoulders.

“Eh, it’s okay.” Audrianna sighed and looked spaced out. “I think I’m over most of it already anyway.”

“I’ll bet you are.” Elyzabel reached over and squeezed her arm, grinning from ear to ear knowingly. Elyzabel had light caramel-colored skin, with pink lips, straight short hair, and clear, honey-colored eyes always ready to dance in merriment. She wore a loose fitting, bright, flowery blouse that featured a curved neckline and slits from shoulder to elbow on both arms. Snug fitting blue jeans that hugged her curves and lacy six inch heels topped off the ensemble.

“At least your man is suave.” Elyzabel brought up some text on her cell phone. She handed her cell to Audrianna. “Here, read this.”

Audrianna took the phone, and as she read the text on the screen she laughed aloud. “Kelly sent this?”

Elyzabel nodded. “And is wasn’t until after we ‘got together’ that he told me you were in the hospital and needed clothes and shit.”

Audrianna read the text out loud, swallowing hard. “Come over sexy body and suck some crotch-but he not easy?”

Elyzabel frowned, shaking her head. “I thought that since Payne was raised ‘alright’ that he wouldn’t be so vulgar.”

Audrianna opened a radio application on her phone to listen to the local morning disc jockeys and placed the cell on the bedside table. “All of them are like that,” Audrianna referred to Payne’s other brothers and sister, shaking her head with a small smile.

Elyzabel looked at her with a mischievous smile on her face. “Was Llewellyn like that?”

Audrianna settled down on the pillow, folding her arms. She screwed her mouth up into a small moue, her mind away on other things. Elyzabel laughed at her expression and got up and started unpacking clothes that Audrianna could wear and some toiletries, placing them on one of the other vacant beds.

She listened quietly to the two disc jockeys on the radio.

“You don’t find it is just dark-”

“Every morning now. Normally you could tell when the sky is cloudy, but I just feel every morning it’s just dark.”

“Just dark-cold and dark…” Audrianna reached for the phone and placed it on mute. She hugged herself and rubbed the sides of her arms, eager to dispel the unnerving feeling that crept into her body with thoughts of her ex.

A chilly, unannounced breeze swept through the room, and the curtains billowed. She looked towards the window over the green, distant hill tops. A waning howl from an unknown animal could be heard in the distance. She rubbed her arms up and down. She felt restless, and anxious all at once.  A small tap on her shoulder from behind made her jump.

“What do you think of, my dear?” A soft whisper in her ear made her smile and turn towards the calming voice. Her priest, Father Arie John, chaplain-in-residence at their local New York estate church, looked upon her fondly.

Audrianna reached over to caress his strong hand on her shoulder, and squeezed. “Father John, it is so… comforting to have you here.” And a surprise, Audrianna thought silently.

“Still.” Viktor came upon them both from behind. “There was no need for him to rush over to pay you any attention. She is well and in good spirits, dear Father.”

Audrianna rolled her eyes heavenward.  She often grew tired of the cat-and-mouse game played between these two. Viktor made no bones about disliking the young priest who often assisted Audrianna on her excursions in visiting charitable institutions abroad. And Arie felt no need to ignore her husband’s distaste of him.

Arie kept his eyes on Audrianna. “I merely wished to be soundly reassured in her countenance, good Viktor. In that, a face-to-face meeting is always best.”

Arie sat down in the chair beside her that Lincoln had occupied. He held her hand gently. “Now, how are you feeling?”

“Umm.” Audrianna glanced surreptitiously over at her husband, whose body exuded waves of menace towards the young man. “I can’t say that I hurt anywhere.”

Arie was about twenty-seven years old with dark hair, not nearly as black as Viktor’s. It was short in a neat style cut above the ears. His eyes were light blue. His nose was smooth, long and straight, but not protruding. He had handsome, rugged features, and a grin that made women lament the Catholic Church.
“Who told you about what happened?” Viktor demanded. Folding his arms, he stood looking down at Arie right beside the priest.

Arie looked up, sighing. “Lincoln told me. I had been calling you, but I am afraid my calls got sent to voicemail.” He turned to Audrianna. “I am truly sorry if I have disturbed your recovery.” He bent over her, bracing each side of the bed with his arms. “Lincoln was kind enough to send the private jet to pick me up. You look worn out.”

“Not at all, I feel fine.” Audrianna raised her shoulders up and down as though to prove she was well.

“You heard it from v’e monkey’s mouth yourself, she is fine-you may leave,” Viktor said.

“Emph, umph!” Elyzabel hit her chest repeatedly with her hand and stifled a short laugh by placing the other hand over her mouth. She waited patiently for her cue to help Audrianna get dressed and ready to leave the hospital.

Arie shot up to his full height, which had an advantage over Viktor by two inches. “I only wish to comfort her in her time of need.”

Viktor looked dumbfounded, and then his eyes lit up like burning coal. “I am the only man to comfort Audrianna in her time of need.”

“Arie, I am really okay. There was no need for you to come here at all. Please, go now and I will see you next week at prayer service at Immaculate Conception.”

“Praise be you, you are so brave. Yes, I see you there.” He bent down and kissed her forehead lightly.

“Pray, may I see you outside a moment, Father?” Viktor managed through clenched teeth.

They departed the room and Elyzabel tried hard to contain her laughter. “Talk about a cock fight.”

Audrianna couldn’t help herself, she laughed along with Elyzabel.

CHAPTER 19

Atlanta, Georgia

Viktor sat back on the sofa. He had arrived at dinner time and the kids were busy filling him in on every waking moment, on every little thing that had happened while he and Nikolai had been abroad. He was beginning to kick himself mentally for not phoning before-hand and giving Gregorí a heads up about making sure the kids were at the penthouse in the city and not the estate house.

There was no other way to describe the estate his family occupied other than palatial. The lawns were manicured, the hedges sculpted and statuesque. The acreage went on for miles and miles. They had no neighbours.

Viktor hated that one of the side rooms was floor to ceiling glass. The only concession he had made for the scheme that allowed full view inside his home was that the glass had to be bullet proof. He favoured opulence, as long as it was steel and secure.

He tried his best to put on the smiling face of the doting dad for his children, but they knew him too well and kept interjecting into the conversation that he was not paying attention.

Finally, his wife arrived. She put some music on and she and the kids started dancing to Willow Smith’s Hair. The kids reconciled with the fact that they had to go to bed. They only tried to remain awake to greet their mother before they went to sleep. Little rascals.
One of the nannies led them to bed, while he and Audrianna remained in the living room. There was fake fire in the massive stone chimney that was all for show. The lights were dimmed and the mood could only be explained as romantic.

Audrianna switched the high-octane hip-hop music from before to BOB’s Headband and Viktor found it hard to hide his grin. Typical. Other women thought Marvin Gaye was the right vibe to get into the mood. Audrianna had to be different.

She came in front of him and he grabbed her around the waist, bringing her to sit in his lap. “I missed you,” he whispered. He pressed her body to his and they locked lips in a tight kiss. He suckled her mouth, deep and hard, and when they parted, they were
both devastated and breathless.

Viktor brought the zipper down the centre of her back. Her dress was undone half-way when she got up, eluding his reach. She stood, turning to face him boldly, their eyes locked as she continued unzipping it herself.

She peeled away the slinky, stretchy, lilac one-piece and allowed it to fall to the floor. She wore a lacy black bikini brief and her swelling breasts almost bobbed out of her black lingerie bra. He reached over to caress her curving tummy.

She pulled back and started to dance to the rhythm of the music, backing up, turning around and advancing up the stairs. Viktor got up, picked up the dropped dress, and followed her. Midway up the staircase, she unhooked her bra. Still dancing, she flipped it over her shoulder. He had to bend a little to catch it a few steps down.

She was up the stairs and in their bedroom by the time he reached the doorway. She started slipping off her undies and heaven help him, he was up. She sling-shot the panties to him. He caught them with one hand, grabbing the garment to his chest.

His lips bore a pleasant smile of intent. Audrianna drew herself up to lie on her back on the bed, flexing her curves.

“You’re going to make me pop, love.” He leered. He dumped the garments at the side of the bed. Kneeling with one leg at the edge, he slid his index and middle fingers lightly from between her breasts, down her centre, past her button to nestle at the apex of her thighs. All the while his exploration caused purrs of pleasure to escape her lips. She gasped when his fingers explored her core. Fingering her wetness. She gasped again.

“Oh love…it’s been so long.” Her whimpering touched his very soul.

He hissed a calming breath and slid more fingers inside her. Her gasp caught in her throat.

He shuddered. His voice was soft. Seductive. “Audrianna, you’re going straight to my head.”

Her laugh was perky. Playful. But the moan afterwards was intense. Her breath came in short wisps as he played with her opening. She reached for his extended arm and pulled him down further. “Uh, uh, mmmm.” Her head thrashed sideways against the sheets. Watching her made his manhood grow bigger, and she cupped his crotch. Massaging him, he growled. His eyes glowed.

He got on top of her, straddling her naked body with his fully clothed one. He penetrated her rhythmically. “You’re a beast, you know that,” he said through grit teeth. He sneered.

“I felt it, you know.”

Audrianna’s breath caught. She shuddered. “Felt what?”

All at once, he stopped toying with her sex. All at once, his voice took on a harsh edge.

“Take a lucky guess.” Then his fingers and palm closed in on the curve of her sex and the feeling was at once punishing and pleasant. Painful ecstasy.

He raised off her. His stance and face disapproving.

Audrianna’s breathing was haggard. Ragged. She recognized the bright coldness of his eyes and became retrospective. She gave him a face that communicated that she knew what he was talking about. And didn’t care at the same time.

He sighed in frustration, shaking his head. He watched her writhing on the bed. Legs apart, her sex wet, and still he cursed his hard-on for her. Viktor seethed. “I can’t even tell you to go fuck yourself because I want to fuck you.” He jabbed his index finger into his chest. “Argh.” He planted his hands aggressively on his head and looked skyward in disbelief at his own inner demons. “I wish I could kill this fucking messed-up reaction I get from just looking at you.” Then he was on the bed again, his hands around her neck, his face a mask of determination. “You make me feel I should be praying for the courage to put both of us out of our misery.” And he pressed both thumbs down hard on the dip in her strained throat.

Audrianna moaned and her legs came up around his waist and her calves scissored over his back. His teeth gnashed and…

Holy shit, I’m feral.

Viktor felt himself turning Were. Shifting. He let go of Audrianna’s throat, backhanded her across the side of her face, and leapt to the corner of the room. He bowed his forehead into the wall lightly, taking in careful breaths through the mouth. Trying desperately to steady his nerves and his racing heart.

He heard the rustling on the bed, movement on the plush carpet and felt the side of the cheek he had hit graze his back. She did not even reach the small of his back as she hugged him from behind. “Would it help if I say I’m really, really sorry?”

Viktor laughed derisively. “What are you sorry for, sweetness? Sorry you put your life and the life of our unborn child in danger, again? Sorry we’re connected by this impossibly long red string that can’t be cut? Sorry you don’t love me as much as I love you? Come now, tell me your grievances and I will absolve you of them like that priest of yours I can’t prevent you from seeing.”

“Awww, you’re just jealous. That’s so sweet.”

He snickered. It figures she would focus on the point of her choosing.

She reached around and started to unbuckle his belt. She pulled it loose and dropped it to the floor. Before she could loosen his pants, he clasped her hands and turned around in the circle of her arms to face her. He peered down into her eyes.

They stood there in silence looking at each other. His eyes, probing. Hers, frank. Clear. Viktor released a frustrated sigh. “Turn around, let me see that tushy.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

E.R. Baine has a degree in Computing with a minor in English and a Career Diploma in Freelance Writing. She has been a voracious reader and writer all her life. E.R. Baine writes romance series for adults.

Dear Reader,
I fall more and more in love with my characters the more I write about them. Hello, my name is E.R. Baine and I own the start-up Chunksie Entertainment. I started it back in 2005 when I was 25 years old and first started University. Now I have my degree in Computing, with a minor in English, I decided to pick up where I left off with my writing.

Back in 2005 I had about 60 poems on the site, with one of them being published. This time I have decided to venture into the realm of serialized romantic drama.

I love vampires, werewolves, demons, devils and angels. My influences are wide ranging, from Shakespeare, to J.R. Ward's The Black Dagger Brotherhood to Jeff Lindsay's Dexter novels.

My books incorporate a heavy dose of romance. Many of my characters would go on to get their happy ending, though with a myriad of trials and tribulations along the way. I like writing about diverse characters and not sticking to the boring boy-meets-girl meme.

I love 'love'. And I like the fact that I feel my readers grow more closer to me with every word I write that they read. I look forward to my fans getting to know me better with every book I write. It is a pleasure touching all of your hearts with my writing voice.

Thank you for reading my novels. I hope you have as much joy reading them as I have writing them.
